Definition of Classification:
The Human Resources Project & Initiatives Manager/Senior HR Generalist role provides leadership, thought partnership, analysis, and strategic decision-making support to successfully monitor and support HR initiatives by managing project plans, timelines, and resources, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and implementing efficient project management processes to support the broader Human Resources (HR) strategic goals. Reporting to the AVP Talent, Diversity and Culture & Chief Human Resources Officer this is a highly visible and collaborative position. The role is a wonderful opportunity to partner across the leadership team while getting highly impactful work done. Understanding of HR disciplines, including employee engagement and well-being, leadership development initiatives, organizational development, talent acquisition, performance management, employment and regulatory compliance, training, employee relations, benefits, compensation, employee relations, compliance and operations is critical in the position.
This position will work in collaboration with stakeholders across the university to assess human resources processes, policies, and strategies to improve compliance and streamline processes within existing university structures. In addition, the Human Resources Project & Initiatives Manager/Senior HR Generalist position performs a wide variety of operational and analytical work in areas such as data management, reporting, and analysis work to improve operational efficiencies utilizing HRIS functionalities; assists in the development of policies, procedures, and training materials.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manage multiple projects from development to implementation to achieve strategic plans, goals, and operational objectives within human resources including gathering requirements and developing project plans
- Develop and manage project plans and project documents, including timelines, procedures, proposals, status reports, and presentations
- Coordinate with stakeholders and vendors, managing project timelines, implementation, training, assessment and monitor scope of budget
- Lead project meetings, document key decisions, and collaborate with team members to develop projects
- Responsible for monitoring and creating reports on progress for activities for designated projects, initiatives, or integrations
- Provides direction, coaching and mentorship to HR team members to help with continuous development of skills and achievement of successful project delivery
- Advise stakeholders on matters related to project work as needed for transparency and strategic alignment
- Provide analysis and interpretation of people and organizational data and make recommendations for HR process development, including analyzing processes, designing, and implementing new processes, and improving existing process
- Analyzes current processes and recommends improvements to streamline processes; offers technical solutions to increase efficiency with stakeholders to implement new and revised systems
- Foster an engaging and encouraging environment and work in collaboration across departments, divisions, and schools to provide consistency in HR practices, policies, and procedures
- Partners with HR leaders in developing and implementing initiatives that align with the University's mission, values, and strategic goals to attract, retain, and develop talent
- Prepare compelling HR collateral for various audiences, including employees, using branded communication materials with the intent to educate, persuade, and/or inform in partnership with the Strategic Marketing and Communications team
- Responsible for implementing a HR communications plan using a variety of platforms including campaigns, newsletters, presentations, events, and content
- Researches, prepares statistics, and provides analysis and recommendations related to equal employment opportunity and other programs
- Provides data to and collaborates with stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Prepares regulatory reports as well as other ad hoc reports for audit and compliance
- Partners and serves as a technical point-of-contact for the department and assists subject matter experts with ensuring data integrity, testing of system changes, report writing, and analyzing data flows for process improvement opportunities
- Maintains an understanding of employee engagement, well-being and development trends and provides guidance, strategies, or initiatives into result-driven actions
- In partnership with stakeholders, develop, implement, provide, and/or facilitate programs or meetings to support and enhance employee engagement, well-being, and development initiatives
- In partnership with HR leadership, drive operational efficiencies and advance key HR initiatives through the management and completion of special projects
- Build and maintain positive, effective relationships with stakeholders to improve employee engagement, well-being, and employee experience across the University
- Maintain knowledge of university policies, applicable laws, and best practices affecting human resources functions and ensure policies and procedures are applied compliantly and consistently
- Assists in the drafting and development of related policies, procedures, and programs while keeping current on changes to personnel related laws and regulations and ensuring timely planning and implementation of processes and procedures to ensure compliance
- Maintains, updates, and oversees HR internal website for content and partners with Strategic Marketing and Communications for external content
- Takes initiative to generate insights and identify areas of opportunity in talent and culture initiatives
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and simultaneously manage multiple projects and priorities
- Promotes accountability at all levels for cultivating a culture that encourages collaboration, innovation, and trust
- Fosters diversity, equity, inclusion, cultural competency, and a positive work and academic environment
- Supervise students and/or HR support employees as needed
- May assist in the day-to-day HR functions including but not limited to recruiting, onboarding, benefits, employee relations, policies implementation and administration

Qualification Guidelines
Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:
Experience/Training/Education:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources management, organizational management, public administration, business administration or related fields is required
- Four plus years of human resources experience or closely related field including considerable experience with Human Capital Management (HCM) systems and reporting software, data compilation, analysis, compliance reporting, and/or process improvement
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office products including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
- Experience working with large data sets, and generating accurate, timely reports
- Advanced experience with HCM systems and reporting software
Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent HCM application implementation life cycle skills, including experience developing requirements, analysis, application configuration, and security functional specifications, and the ability to translate business requirements into functional workflow designs
- Excellent written and advanced verbal communication skills (including exceptional listening, mentoring, presentation, and collaboration abilities)
- Excellent analytical, reasoning, and critical thinking skills
- Effective communication and presentation skills; ability to write clearly and concisely
- Excellent research, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Aptitude to learn innovative technology, methods, and procedures
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations
- Knowledge of HR strategies, concepts, principles, and practices
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., use of macro's, pivot tables, VLOOKUP's). Methods of collecting, analyzing, and presenting data
- High proficiency in computer skills using word processing, spreadsheets, HRIS software, and other data base applications; ability to operate standard office equipment
- Ability to recommend appropriate courses of action within established guidelines; evaluate and recommend changes to policies, programs, and practices
- Demonstrated capacity to anticipate obstacles and plan for contingencies
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to determine relevance and prioritize tasks
- Ability to use critical thinking skills to weigh options and predict the best possible outcomes
- Proven leadership ability with a demonstrated ability to help teams succeed, providing support and encouragement to foster a collaborative and productive environment
- Ability to foster strong, positive relationships and align both internal and external resources to achieve university objectives
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with professionalism, sensitivity, and neutrality
- Ability to use appropriate judgment when making decisions and recommendations
- Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff
- Working knowledge and experience with Human Resources practices and systems in a higher education environment and proficient knowledge of HCM rules-based processing is preferred

Working Conditions:
Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
Physical Demands:
Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances on a regular basis; travel to various locations to attend meetings and conduct work; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file; climb stairs; speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

HIRING RANGE: Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. The University of Redlands is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is defined as the Hiring Range. Placement within the Hiring Range is determined by internal equity, and relevant qualifications.
BACKGROUND CHECK: Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. The University will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. DRIVER'S LICENSE CHECK: Possession of a valid Driver's License is required for certain positions. PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMS: For certain positions typically in Public Safety, Facilities, Athletics and Information Technology Services departments, employment is contingent upon a candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs. Public Safety Officers, in addition to a pre-employment physical exam, will also be required to pass a psychological evaluation.
