Job Summary: Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) believes that people are at the center of our work and the communities we serve. This position, in collaboration with the Director, Employee Benefits & HRIS, is essential in providing benefits information to employees, assisting them with enrollment, making changes, and answering questions about the college benefits, and maintaining the Benefits Enrollment Portal.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Benefits Orientation & Enrollment:
  • Meet as needed with new and existing employees to review benefits, answer questions, and ensure enrollment/changes are completed in the Benefits Enrollment Portal.
  • Responsible for input of all benefit and deduction information into the College HR system in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Responsible for input of dependent and beneficiary information into the HR system.
  • Approve employee enrollment and changes through the Benefits Enrollment Portal and ensure appropriate documentation is collected.
  • Coordinate with other HR Coordinators, Budget, and the Payroll Office to facilitate accurate and timely input into the HR system.
  • Mediate problems between employees and providers of benefit plan.
  • Attend weekly calls with vendor to discuss issues.
  • Attend College Health Insurance Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Assist with review of benefits summaries, SPD, and the member handbook.
  • Assist in Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
  • Reconcile assigned insurance billings monthly and provide follow-up with the appropriate vendor and Payroll.
  • Terminate employees and/or dependents on vendor sites.
  • Establish and maintain records for individual employee benefit selections and coverage.
  • Disseminate benefit information to staff, faculty, prospective employees, outside agencies, and other USHE Institutions as requested.
  • Assist employee/beneficiary in filing life insurance claims.
  • Provide recommendations to Director regarding policies and procedures concerning employee benefits.



Benefits Fair & Open Enrollment:
  • Coordinate the annual Benefits Fair including communication with vendors, logistics, advertising, etc.
  • Coordinate the annual Benefits Open Enrollment including scheduling of college wide meetings, answering questions, and following up with employees to complete necessary forms.
  • Work with vendors to prepare information for open enrollment meetings.
Reporting & Compliance:
  • Compile information, prepare reports, and perform analysis of assigned plans for the college and vendors.
  • Responsible for keeping information on the Benefits Enrollment Portal up to date. Audit employee elections/coverage and file cases for corrections.
  • Assist with configuration and testing of Benefits Enrollment Portal for Open Enrollment and benefit changes.
  • Create audit processes to ensure accuracy in data input
  • Maintain compliance with federal guidelines, including Medicare, HIPAA, ACA, etc.
  • Act as a Data Custodian, creating data definitions to be used in reporting and analysis.
  • Generate and review the Benefits Audit Report to ensure accuracy of data.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of direct, full-time, paid work experience in Human Resources or business/office experience.



Trade off 2:1 in experience/education requirement

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of college policies and procedures preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of Federal and State HR statutes, laws, and regulations. Working and practical knowledge of insurance and retirement plans. Knowledge of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS). Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and report writing software. Knowledge of business English, writing, vocabulary, and business math. Effective communication and human relations skills. Proven ability to work with sensitive and highly confidential information. Ability to write effectively and concisely. Ability to create and maintain a good working relationship with vendors, college departments, and internal staff. Ability to create understanding when working with individuals and groups as it pertains to benefits. Ability to be organized and track changes each payroll. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
