Job Description
The Advisor/Recruiter position is an entry level student services position. The advisor will be engaged in academic advising and recruitment activities that support the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences in the delivery of academic advising and recruiting of first year and transfer students. The primary responsibilities of this position are to provide comprehensive academic advising and professional guidance for students pursuing undergraduate majors in CEHHS, and to engage with prospective and admitted students to CEHHS.


Responsibilities
Provides unit-wide management of new student orientation and other student transition processes:

Ensures comprehensive, quality academic advising and professional guidance for approximately 150 undergraduate students interested in pursuing programs within the college. This may include advising special populations such as honors students, student-athletes, students identified as at-risk by faculty or staff, college exploratory students, etc. Works to co-create an academic plan with students using the Advising 2020 model which incorporates self-exploration, career exploration, and experience learning. Additionally, will meet individually with potential change of major students from other colleges. Is responsible for understanding university academic policies and curricular/graduation requirements for programs within the college. Documents student appointments and interactions in Salesforce. Remains responsive to student questions via email and phone.

Collaborating with the Associate Director, this position, will keep up-to date knowledge of recruiting trends as well as the latest strategies and tools needed to effectively reach target audiences for CEHHS. They will develop, execute, and plan outreach to communicate with prospective students and families. Develop strategic recruitment plans that include efficient travel and maximum exposure to potential undergraduate students. Some overnight travel and weekend work will be required. In coordination with the Associate Director and Undergraduate Admissions, the recruiter will assist with facilitation of campus visits of admitted and prospective students and collaborate in the organization of undergraduate ambassadors for campus visits.

The Advisor/Recruiter will also collaborate with determining needs and creating of message content for prospective students marketing materials, presentations, and electronic messaging to inform and engage prospective students and families. Working with the Associate Director, the advisor/recruiter will facilitate analyses, reports and evaluations of prospective student visits and campus programming. Create and foster partnerships with high school counselors, alumni and community college partners.

Helps lead freshmen and transfer orientations at the start of each semester. This includes assisting with the orientation presentations, reviewing curricular information with small groups of students, and providing individual academic advising and registration review to new students at UT.

Assists with the college's spring commencement ceremony, attends staff meetings, and participates in professional development opportunities, and other duties as assigned, as appropriate.

Provide Comprehensive Academic Advising for CEHHS students in non-licensure undergraduate majors:

Ensures comprehensive, quality academic advising for undergraduate in undergraduate majors in CEHHS. This includes adding documentation in Sales Force and remaining responsive to student questions via email or phone.

Conducts freshman and transfer orientation presentations and advising.

Assists with file review and retention outreach at the end of each term

Participates in recruitment events throughout the year.

Assists in the end of semester review of all advisees to determine how students in the College's majors are progressing and to initiate outreach to students who appear to be struggling in their majors

Teaches the purposes of, and help students gain an appreciation for, the Volunteer Core requirements of the University.

Helps students understand the link between their major and career and direct them to career and professional development resources/opportunities on campus.

Promotes students' intellectual and personal development to encourage academic success and lifelong learning.


Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Master's Degree
  • Experience: Experience in advising, counseling, mentoring, academic coaching, or related field at the college or university level is required.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Strong written, oral communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to relate effectively to students, faculty, support staff, alumni, and parents in an academic advising capacity.
  • Knowledge/proficiency of Microsoft Office suite
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Education:
  • Experience: Experience in academic advising at the college or university level. Experience in student recruitment at the college or university level. Experience with Banner and MS Office.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of university policy, procedure, and curricular information. Knowledge of Tennessee state licensing requirements.
